This is a great album to understand why so many rock/folk musicians look back in time for their direction, so many good songs. My favorite is of course Goodnight Irene, but the best cover of that song is performed by Ronnie Lane of the Small Faces and the Faces at his A.R.M.S concert where his is joined performing this song by, Jimmy Page, Eric Clapton, Steve Winwood, Jeff Beck and a host of /5(9). Other articles where Goodnight, Irene is discussed: Lead Belly: six months his song “Goodnight, Irene” became a million-record hit for the singing group the Weavers; along with other pieces from his repertoire, among them “The Midnight Special” and “Rock Island Line,” it became a standard. "Goodnight Irene," "New Orleans" (essentially the same song as "House of the Rising Sun"), "John Hardy," and "When I Was a Cowboy" are all among the most famous tunes that he helped to popularize. But at a mere 28 minutes, this is pretty short on running time. Reply
